Spectacular long longhouses along upper Rajang River.
Longhouses are found in the interiors of Sarawak. Social life is much better as compared to the terrace houses in the cities. It can consist of ranging from a few doors (rooms or 'bilik') and up to close to hundred doors. A longhouse consists of several parts, namely, TANJU, RUAI, PADONG, TEMPUAN, BILIK, DAPUR, PELABOH, TEMANGGAI, SADAU, SADAU EMPANA
Longhouse is losing its' originality in design. Today, the ibans are getting modernized and sophisticated. They built their longhouse following the design of terrace houses in towns. Traditional design of longhouse should be maintained and be as antique look as possible. Abandoned longhouses can be upgraded and turned into a homestay.
